Default question i cant find a title name for

Hi there everyone
I had this weird thought while sitting on the bus this morning.
So 3 People A, B and C with character names a, b and c.
Person A has person B on his friends list with his character name b. One day person B gets fed up with that character/rage quits/whatever and deletes that character, but person A still has b on his friends list. Then person C comes along and creates a new character with the name b.
The question is: What will happen to person A's friendslist?

When you add someone to your friends list, it auto-lists any other character from that account. So if your friend deletes his character and makes a new one, the new one will already be on your friends list. It doesn't matter what the actual name is.

I think you misunderstood me here.
Person B didnt make a new character but person C made a new character with the same name after person B deleted his.

When you add someone to your friends list, you'll see them online no matter what character they are on. Your not adding just that "character" to the list, but the whiole account that the character belongs - ie if they log into another character on that account, you'll see them online.. saying something like "B, on as X".. or "X, otherwise known as B".

Thus if player B deleted the character, you'd still see them come online when they logged on as other character's... and you would not see player C, even though C's name is the same as B's was.. because the attachment in your friends list points to player B's account, not player C's..

Did that help clear things up?

I think the name will be deleted from the friendslist and the active name will be replaced.
I thought friendslist is accountbased, not character based

Edit: kamatsu, explained the same -_-'

Another theory...

When you create a character, it is assigned a unique "fingerprint" that the GW servers use to identify it - the name you give to it is just a label. If you delete a character and someone else creates one with an identical name, GW will not see it as the same character.

An example: Create a character called Bert. Someone adds you to their friends list. Delete the character. Make a new character called Ernie. Someone else makes a character called Bert. When both are online, your friends list will show Bert (Ernie). It will not show the "new" Bert. It will, however, always show the original character name as that is the pointer to that particular account.

At least, that's the way I believe it works ^^

This is the most likely event, using a ID to determine an account rather than a name. Just as if you create a character called B, customize armor or a weapon to B, delete the character and remake also named B, and attempt to place the armor/weapons on it, it will not let you. So with that you can assume the name of the character has nothing to do with how GW recognizes players or accounts.

C can not make a character with the ame name as b had since character names are unique.

A friend is tracked by their account, not by a particular character's name. Your friend's list may include the name of the character that person was playing when you added them, but that name, (as others have mentioned), is just a label.

You can, once that character has been deleted. There is a period of grace (a few minutes or a few hours, I forget) - just in case you wish to re-make a character with the same name without someone else nicking the name.
